Using Naturopathy to treat your child is safe and effective. In the article below which was published in the Parents Guide Uk I will look at children and their emotional health. The majority of children's health problems can be treated with Natural Medicine. A natural approach to children’s health is most ideal as it is less invasive and does not introduce unnecessary chemicals into their delicate systems. Naturopathy is not only a suitable for physical conditions, but has been proven successful in the treatment of childhood emotional problems such as anxieties, night terrors and behavioural difficulties. More children than ever are now suffering with anxiety and depression. Many adults think that children have nothing to be unhappy about but we must remember that Children do experience powerful emotions just as adults do. The causes of these disorders can be wide ranging from grief, stress, low self esteem or an old shock or trauma that has not been released from the system, it may even be vaccination damage or a negative past life influence. Many of the children born in the last 10 years are more spiritually sensitive than ever before. They may need balancing to keep them on their correct pathway and to help keep them grounded on the earth and remember why they are here on a soul level. The remedies that i prescribe are safe and gentle and are great for children as well as adults.
How can you tell if your child is depressed?
We can all feel sad from time to time but when that sadness does not go away and leads to other problems such as ill-health, low self esteem, apathy, tiredness and insomnia this can be depression. Genetics and family tendencies may partly explain why some people are more susceptible to depression than others. It may also explain why the levels of certain brain chemicals may become abnormal in depression. Anxiety can manifest as panic- attacks, fears, phobias, timidity and clinging, repeated headaches and stomach aches. It can be hard to tell as children can find it hard to articulate how they feel as they do not yet have the language skills of an adult or the emotional intelligence to understand how they are feeling. It is not always easy to spot depression in children. Seven to fourteen percent of children will experience an episode of major depression before the age of fifteen.
What can you do?
Natural Medicine can be very effective and there and many different approaches from homeopathy and nutrition to herbs and flower essences. Homeopathic treatment can help. Some remedies to consider are listed below: • Pulsatilla – for bursting into tears at the slightest thing • Ignatia – if the depression has an external cause such as grief or divorce. • Aconite – for panic attacks that come on suddenly • Nat Mur – if the child seems withdrawn With all remedies it may be best to seek help from a practitioner so that they can make sure your child is getting the right remedy. The wrong remedy taken for too long can cause problems. It may be safer to try a Bach Flower Essence such as: • Red chestnut – overly anxious about the welfare of others • Aspen – anxiety for no apparent reason • Gentian – for mild depression and despondency • Mustard – for a darker mood and lack of joy • Rescue Remedy – a good all rounder
Your child’s mental health may be suffering from something as simple as a lack of essential fatty acids (EFA’s) which regulate brain chemicals or a vitamin B complex which will provide vitamin B6 to boost the production of serotonin. You can get these from all good health stores and you will need to give your child an age appropriate dose.
Case Study. J.E aged 11. J.E. had been suffering with depression, he was crying all the time and did not want to go to school, and he was also suffering from panic attacks and was having trouble getting to sleep. When I tested his system he has mental shock and trauma related to the death of a family friend a few years before. I treated him homeopathically to release the shock and deal with the grief. On the second appointment he said he had been better with less crying and he had been more active but he did have a panic attack whilst on holiday. When I tested him the grief and shock had cleared but he did have some fear left and he was suffering from mental stress. I gave him another homeopathic remedy along with a harmonic remedy to release the fear. On the third treatment he was fine and he and his mother said he was back to his old self and was back at school. Once the seed of the problem is located and treated natural healing will occur.
Children need to be emotionally and spiritually balanced in a world where they now have to deal with stress at such a young age. It is important to listen to your child and if you suspect and problems seek professional health.
